David Pytches is Counsel and a member of Appleby's Private Client & Trust team, based in the Isle of Man.
David joined Appleby in October 2015 from Standard Bank in Jersey, although much of his career has been spent in private practice as a trusts lawyer in the Cayman Islands. He advises institutional and private clients on a wide range of private and commercial trust matters, including the formation, restructuring and administration of complex trust structures, reserved powers trusts, PTCs, unit trusts, the powers and obligations of trustees, the rights of beneficiaries and the functions of protectors and enforcers. He has particular experience of working with clients in the Middle East, Asia and Africa.
David qualified as an English Solicitor in 1999 and practiced for five years in the tax and trusts department of Stevens & Bolton LLP. In 2005, he relocated to the Cayman Islands where he was admitted as an Attorney-at-law, working initially in the trusts team at Walkers, and then joining Conyers Dill & Pearman in 2010 to lead the firm’s Cayman private client practice. In 2014, David moved to Jersey to take up an in-house role as counsel to Standard Bank’s offshore fiduciary teams.
David is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and holds the STEP Advanced Certificate in UK Tax for International Clients. He is also a past council member of the Cayman Islands branch of STEP. He is recommended by Legal 500 UK 2011 and 2012 with sources describing him as "extremely competent" and "an excellent trust lawyer" and "a very safe pair of hands." David was also referred as a leading private client lawyer in PLC Which Lawyer 2011 and as a leading lawyer in Citywealth Leaders List 2013.
