Fiona Chan is a partner in the corporate department of Appleby's Hong Kong office. Fiona has extensive experience advising clients on various offshore jurisdictions in the areas of banking and finance, corporate, structured finance, non-contentious insurance and private client and trust matters, and in particular focusing on unsecured and secured lending, asset financing, lending through fund structures, Bermuda insurances and offshore trusts. Her recent practice involves advising clients on Bermuda, British Virgin Islands and Cayman Islands law.
Fiona has extensive experience in the offshore space through working at two other offshore law firms in Hong Kong prior to joining Appleby. She has also worked in the London and Hong Kong offices of Clifford Chance for ten years before entering the offshore field. Her experience spans the spectrum of banking and finance transactions including bilateral and syndicated lending, project and acquisition finance, asset-backed and property financing, energy and infrastructure financing, pre-IPO debt and equity finance, corporate restructuring/pre-insolvency and various forms of credits and securities.
Fiona has been widely recognised by her clients as well as legal directories. She has recently been selected as the region’s 10 most notable offshore lawyers of the Asian Legal Business’ Offshore Client Choice List 2017 and one of the 2017 Influential Women in Re/Insurance by Intelligent Insurer. “I have met many offshore lawyers in my field of work, and her response time is second to none.” says one of her clients. The Magic Circle trained lawyer is also lauded as “responsive” by Legal 500. She regularly speaks at conferences and seminars and is often asked to contribute to policy discussions, interviews and articles for leading industry organisations and journals in the offshore space
