YDS is comprised of an exceptional group of promising athletes, with a team of 38 athletes (20 females, 18 males) aged 11 to 17 set for competition in Barbados – with 11 of the athletes competing in their first-ever CARIFTA games. The YDS is an intensive program aimed at developing the skills and ambitions of young, local triathletes. Through comprehensive coaching and support, the YDS aims to enhance the athletes’ participation in both local and international events – with the annual CARIFTA event the highlight of the race calendar. The YDS has increased considerably with 55 registered juniors.

As the principal sponsor for the second year, Appleby is dedicated to fostering the growth and empowerment of these young athletes, in line with the firm’s commitment to nurture local sporting talent and promote healthy competition. The firm’s financial support has equipped the YDS with their distinctive pink and blue new race kits (triathlon suits, t-shirts and backpacks) which the athletes are excited to wear on the international stage.

Appleby Partner Clive Langley, who is a member of the YDS coaching team, along with Head Coach Neil de Ste Croix, said, “We have seen the highest level of interest from athletes wanting to compete in this year’s CARIFTA Triathlon and Aquathlon championships and this has meant that all athletes have raised the bar as far as personal performances in the qualifying races. The dedicated coaching team that’s included overseas coach Mike Harlow and local coaches Alec Shepherd, Richard Lau and Caroline Black, have worked tirelessly in order to make sure we have the strongest team possible in what is expected to be the largest field in the history of the event”

Brad Adderley, Appleby Bermuda’s Managing Partner, said, “Our enthusiasm for nurturing young athletes in their triathlon journey reflects our deep-rooted dedication to Bermuda’s youth and sports communities. We’re excited to partner with the BTA’s Youth Development Squad for the second year, and send our heartfelt best wishes to the CARIFTA team. The growth of the YDS has been remarkable, fueled by the unwavering efforts of countless volunteers, including devoted coaches and parents to ensure the program’s success. We’re thrilled to see these young athletes have an amazing experience and can’t wait to celebrate their achievements.”
