Leading offshore law firm Appleby is now ranked in Tier 1 for nine practice areas in The Legal 500 Caribbean after the Group’s Cayman Islands office improved its position for Banking, Finance and Capital Markets in the 2023 edition of the legal directory.
It represents the third such top tier ranking for the Cayman Islands office alongside those already gained in the jurisdiction for Real Estate and Trusts/Private Client.
In Bermuda, Appleby has retained all six Tier 1 rankings across Banking, Finance & Capital Markets; Corporate & Commercial; Insurance/Reinsurance; Dispute Resolution; Regulatory & Compliance; and Trusts/Private Client.
Together with the Group’s rankings for the British Virgin Islands (BVI), where the office ‘has one of the best dispute resolution practices on the island’, Appleby is ranked for 18 practice areas across the Caribbean region.
In addition, 53 of the Group’s Bermuda, BVI and Cayman Islands lawyers have been ranked or individually recognised, including 15 as leading individuals.
Further client feedback cited within the directory sees the Bermuda office noted for having ‘the strength and depth few other Bermudian firms can match’ as well as being ‘a market leader for dispute resolution’ with the ability to ‘easily outclass most other firms in terms of the quality of its attorneys and the resources it can muster to support big-ticket offshore litigation’.
In the Cayman Islands, the private client team was described as ‘extremely knowledgeable and practical’, while the dispute resolution practice has ‘excellent strength across the whole team and no weak links’. Similarly, the corporate and commercial practice in the British Virgin Islands is noted for being ‘responsive and knowledgeable’.
A leading directory for the legal directory, The Legal 500 ranks law firms and their lawyers following a thorough and independent research process which includes feedback from 300,000 clients, private practice lawyers and in-house peers as well as the assessment of a law firm’s own deals and confidential matters.
