The Isle of Man was designated as a UNESCO Biosphere in 2016 in recognition of its special environment, culture, heritage and economy and its people’s desire to cherish and nurture them. The Island is the only entire nation Biosphere and all the land and the territorial sea is included. UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man promotes integration between conservation, learning and sustainable development to bring about solutions to challenges we face locally and globally.

The current CSR focus which was agreed by Appleby Isle of Man’s CSR committee, is ‘the Environment’. The CSR committee, led by employees in the firm, have introduced and continue to champion many green initiatives within the workplace from removing personal desk bins to encourage recycling, to offering more flexible working to reduce our offices travel emissions. To avoid using single use plastics, Appleby have gifted each employee with reusable tote bags to use when visiting shops during lunch breaks as well as reusable water bottles and coffee cups.

Appleby continue to make a positive impact in the local community and have supported a number of local environmental charities such as Manx Wildlife Trust, Isle of Man Woodland Trust, Manx Whale & Dolphin and Beach Buddies, with more involvement to come this year.

Appleby Isle of Man Managing Partner, Mark Holligon said, “We are proud to now be a partner of the UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man. It is important that we all play a part in creating a sustainable future and our colleagues have really got behind this. We look forward to making the most of our partnership and doing what we can to support the local environment.”
