The move is part of the recent expansion of Appleby’s offering in Mainland China and future expansion plans for the business.
Following the move, David will become the only lawyer in Mainland China who has been admitted in the Cayman Islands. This will add to the current partners who are based full time in Mainland China which includes Restructuring and Dispute Resolution partner Ben McCosker, who is the only lawyer in Mainland China who has practised in Bermuda, and Corporate Partner Hannah Yao, who is both PRC Qualified and passed the New York Bar.
Commenting on the upcoming move, David said: “I have spent four very enjoyable years in Hong Kong and have been delighted to be part of an Appleby Hong Kong office which has grown significantly in this time and has financially achieved three record years on the run and is on target for a fourth record year despite the difficult market. We continue to increase our market share and to be involved in the largest and most complex deals and we will continue to invest heavily in Hong Kong, as shown by our upcoming office move and new hires which are yet to be announced. I look forward to returning to Hong Kong each month to see clients and referrers and to continuing to work on mandates for our global client base with our fantastic Hong Kong team.
“With Hong Kong in such a strong position, now is the time that we see significant opportunities in Mainland China for growth. Being based in Mainland China and working with Ben, Hannah and the Shanghai team to further grow the office and our market share is an exciting opportunity both for myself personally and the firm and I look forward to hopefully achieving the same success as we have with Hong Kong in coming years as we continue our strong commitment to the Asia market.”
