Appleby has been providing scholarships and bursaries since 1977 to qualified Bermudian applicants based on academic performance, community involvement and extracurricular activities. This year’s recipients are Max Blakeney, Tange Bean, Tiffany Cooper, Malcolm Hendrickson and Za’Khari Turner.
APPLEBY LEGAL EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP:
The Appleby Legal Education Scholarship is an annual scholarship (with the possibility for renewal for a second year) for a Bermudian student studying law who plans to return to Bermuda to practice. This year’s Legal Education Scholarship (valued at $30,000) is awarded to Max Blakeney.
- Max recently completed a Bachelor of Laws (Honors) at University of Buckingham and will be commencing a Master of Laws. He has spent the last four summers with the firm as an intern learning from our outstanding lawyers across various departments.
APPLEBY/BERKELEY INSTITUTE SCHOLARSHIP:
The Appleby/Berkeley Institute Scholarship is an annual scholarship (with the possibility for renewal for a second year) for current graduating students of The Berkeley Institute. This year’s Appleby/Berkeley Institute Scholarship (valued at $20,000) is awarded to Tange Bean.
- Tange will be completing a foundation programme at LILA* College before pursuing medical studies.
APPLEBY LEGAL EDUCATION BURSARIES:
Appleby’s Legal Education Bursaries are annual bursaries for Bermudian students studying at university who have the intention to return to Bermuda. This year’s Education Bursaries (valued at $15,000 each) are awarded to Tiffany Cooper, Malcolm Hendrickson and Za’Khari Turner.
- Tiffany recently completed a Bachelor of Laws at Cardiff University and will be commencing a Master of Laws. Tiffany was also a 2023 Bursary recipient;
- Malcolm is completing a Critical Criminology and Law-Plus Program (Honors) at Brock University;
- Za’Khari is completing a Bachelor of Laws (Honors) at De Montfort University.
Our scholarship and bursary recipients also have the opportunity to apply for summer and winter internships to gain valuable work experience. Legal Education Scholarship recipient, Max Blakeney, and all of our Legal Education Bursary recipients are 2024 summer interns, with Max having interned four summers and Tiffany having also interned last winter.
