Dan’s appointment brings partner numbers in Appleby’s Dispute Resolution team to four, following the recent appointment of Simon Jerrum who is based in London. Dan will be based in the BVI office and work alongside Olwyn Barry in providing time critical advice to clients in Europe and the Middle East.
Dan has practised in the BVI for over eleven years – first with Forbes Hare and latterly with Ogier. He specialises in insolvency and restructuring disputes, most recently leading a team of 16 in advising the liquidators of Three Arrows Capital. He has litigated disputes all the way through to the Privy Council, and is one of the few litigators in the BVI with cryptocurrency experience. He is a solicitor advocate who trained and practised with Norton Rose Fulbright in London and in Singapore before relocating to the BVI in 2012.
Andrew Willins, Practice Group Head said “I have litigated cases with, and against, Dan for over a decade. He is an excellent addition to our team, with a long pedigree of litigating BVI disputes. I am delighted to be able to welcome him to our expanding Dispute Resolution team in the BVI.”
Dan said “I am extremely pleased to be joining Appleby’s BVI Dispute Resolution team which has an outstanding reputation in the market. A partner bench of four will make Appleby one the larger of the DR practices in the jurisdiction by partner number and I am delighted to be joining the firm during this period of its growth.”
Dan is described by the Legal 500 as being “a star of the future. He is great with clients and extremely efficient” (Legal 500, 2022) and having “excelled on the Pakistan litigation” (Legal 500, 2022). He is also described as having “helped us to navigate the complexities of BVI litigation with ease” and to have been “available for a chat where matters were unclear, regardless of the time difference.”
