Appleby was the first offshore firm to be granted a licence to provide offshore legal advice in Mainland China and will be the second to have lawyers based permanently in Mainland China. The Shanghai office will provide a full range of offshore legal services on all aspects of corporate and commercial law, dispute resolution and private client and trusts, working alongside a global team operating from the British Virgin Islands, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Guernsey, Hong Kong, Isle of Man, Jersey, Mauritius and the Seychelles.
Malcolm Moller, Appleby Group Managing Partner and Chief Representative of the Shanghai office, commented: “Appleby is one of the most established offshore law firms in Asia with over 30 years’ experience on the ground. This launch of offshore legal services from our Shanghai office further underlines the strength of our offshore offering in Asia and globally.”
David Bulley, Managing Partner of Appleby’s Hong Kong and Shanghai offices, added: “As only the second offshore firm which will have lawyers based permanently in Mainland China, this is an important next step in our Asia offering and once again demonstrates Appleby’s commitment to the region. Further, with a clear mandate and the support of our global partnership, I look forward to working to strategically grow our Shanghai office, as we have done and continue to do in Hong Kong.”
