Michael is an accredited insolvency and commercial litigation specialist with over 20 years of global litigation and arbitration expertise.  Prior to joining Appleby he was the Hong Kong managing partner and a partner of two other offshore law firms and managing director of a US-based private equity and advisory firm specialising in litigation finance, judgment enforcement, asset recovery, and related strategies.

His practice has focussed upon cross-border insolvencies, distressed/contentious investment fund issues, shareholders’ rights and remedies, directors’ duties, audit and professional services claims, fraud claims, and related commercial litigation disputes.

David Bulley, Managing Partner of the Hong Kong Office, commented: “Appleby has one of the leading global offshore litigation practices and this appointment reflects the firm’s strategic move in growing our offering in Asia. Michael is a market leading practitioner whose deep relationships and extensive experience in dealing with high-value, multi-jurisdictional disputes has further strengthened our capacity to lead cross-jurisdictional matters from Hong Kong for our Asia based clients and particularly strengthens our local Bermuda offering, working in conjunction with our Band 1 ranked Bermuda DR team. I am therefore delighted to be adding Michael’s expertise to our full service offering and look forward to continuing to grow our Hong Kong offering with further strategic hires as we see our Hong Kong office going from strength-to-strength.”

Appleby is one of the most established offshore law firms in Asia with over 30 years’ experience operating in one of the world’s most highly regarded, dynamic and vibrant economies. Its Hong Kong office provides on the ground advice on the laws of Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, the British Virgin Islands and Jersey, in the areas of Corporate, Dispute Resolution and Private Client & Trusts.  It also facilitates the provision of legal advice in Guernsey, Isle of Man, Mauritius and the Seychelles.
