Bio
Carl is a Senior Associate in the Corporate department of Appleby’s Bermuda office. He practices in all areas of corporate and commercial law with a particular focus on technology, corporate restructuring, mergers & acquisitions, capital markets, and corporate finance.
Carl regularly advises on complex cross-border corporate restructurings and high-value corporate finance transactions. As a key member of the Technology and Innovation practice in Bermuda, Carl has leveraged his extensive experience in the technology sector and has quickly become an integral figure in Bermuda’s rapidly growing digital assets sector, routinely advising on all aspects of carrying on digital asset business in Bermuda.
From 2016 to 2019, Carl articled and practiced as an Associate in the Corporate department of a top-tier international law firm based in South Africa, where he specialized in cross-border mergers & acquisitions, private equity, and technology transactions.
Prior to joining Appleby, from 2019 to 2021, Carl worked as a Commercial Lawyer (Associate) at a leading managed legal services firm based in South Africa which services some of the world’s largest multinational companies, with a specific focus on commercial contracting in the TMT (technology, media, and telecommunications) sector. In 2021, Carl spent 6 months on secondment to the in-house legal team of a large multinational media company based in London.

Carl is a Senior Associate in the Corporate department of Appleby’s Bermuda office. He practices in all areas of corporate and commercial law with a particular focus on technology, corporate restructuring, mergers & acquisitions, capital markets, and corporate finance.
Carl regularly advises on complex cross-border corporate restructurings and high-value corporate finance transactions. From 2016 to 2019, Carl articled and practiced as an Associate in the Corporate department of a top-tier international law firm based in South Africa, where he specialized in cross-border mergers & acquisitions, private equity, and technology transactions.
Prior to joining Appleby, from 2019 to 2021, Carl worked as a Commercial Lawyer (Associate) at a leading managed legal services firm based in South Africa which services some of the world’s largest multinational companies, with a specific focus on commercial contracting in the TMT (technology, media, and telecommunications) sector. In 2021, Carl spent 6 months on secondment to the in-house legal team of a large multinational media company based in London.

- VIRGIN CRUISES INTERMEDIATE LIMITED – Appleby acted as special Bermuda counsel to Virgin Cruises Intermediate Limited and represented various Virgin Voyages affiliated companies in Bermuda (VV Group), in respect of a $550 million capital raise. The funding round was led by funds managed by the Private Equity Group of Ares Management (Ares), a global alternative investment manager, and also included additional capital from existing investors including Virgin Group and Bain Capital;
- COINZOOM, INC., Advised CoinZoom, Inc. on its application for a Class M Digital Asset Business licence pursuant to the Digital Asset Business Act 2018;
- WEJO, Advised Wejo, a global leader in connected vehicle data, in its USD1.1 billion merger with Virtuoso Acquisition Corp. Advised Wejo Group Limited, Wejo Bermuda Limited and Wejo Limited on matters of Bermuda law.
