Lorinda Peasland is a Partner in the Corporate Department of Appleby’s Hong Kong office.
Lorinda is an international restructuring specialist with over 30 years’ onshore and offshore experience in cross-border restructuring, insolvency, special situations and workouts of distressed companies and financial institutions, advising banks, funds, accountancy firms, leading onshore law firms and regulators. She has extensive experience in dealing with various types of financial instruments and structures. Her practice encompasses both contentious and non-contentious finance-related matters, as well as banking and asset based lending within the distressed corporate climate. She regularly advises on exit and enforcement strategy. Her contentious litigation works encompasses working for corporates, funds, Insolvency Practitioners and financial institutions She also has significant experience in all aspects of offshore schemes of arrangement and has acted in many of the key reported cases in the cross-border arena.
Over her career she has advised creditors in relation to the first global bank collapse of a bank incorporated in the Cayman Islands, acted for the Special Administrator in a Central Bank Intervention in Cyprus and lead the work out of the portfolio of a European bank in wind down.
She has many reported cases on novel points of law to her name.
Prior to joining Appleby, Lorinda was a consultant at another leading offshore law firm. Before practising offshore laws, Lorinda worked as an equity partner at DLA Piper for many years, where alongside her legal practice, she was a corporate responsibility leader and led initiatives in Tanzania and Vietnam.

Lorinda has advised on a number of high-profile global restructurings concerning offshore entities in her career, including a “Restructuring Deal of the Year”:
- Zhongliang Holdings Group Company Limited on the restructuring of its offshore debt of approximately USD1.2 billion. Zhongliang is a Shanghai-based company listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange and primarily engaged in the real estate development business. This multi- jurisdictional transaction was implemented by way of a Hong Kong scheme of arrangement. Appleby, fielding a multi-disciplinary team advised on the Cayman Islands and BVI aspects of the restructuring, which successfully closed in March 2024.
- Fantasia Holdings Group Company Limited – advising company side on all offshore and corporate aspects of the ongoing restructuring of its offshore debt liabilities.
- Shimao Group Holdings Ltd. – advising company side on all offshore and corporate aspects of the ongoing restructuring of its offshore debt liabilities.
- Confidential – numerous engagements advising directors on liability management issues in Bermuda, BVI and the Cayman Islands, in relation to companies listed in Hong Kong, USA and Singapore.
- Advising a Hong Kong listed Cayman incorporated company in respect of its financial restructuring, reverse take- over and relisting on the Hong Kong stock exchange.
- Advising a global Hong Kong listed Bermuda holding company and its primary offshore subsidiaries on its restructuring and the appointment of provisional liquidators in key locations offshore.
- Advising the corporate entities and provisional liquidators on a multi- jurisdictional restructuring of a group of companies in the Cayman Islands, BVI and Bermuda with Hong Kong, Singapore and PRC law governed debt.
- Advising a Hong Kong listed company on the restructuring of New York law governed bonds by way of one of the few BVI schemes of arrangement.
- Confidential – Offshore adviser to a number of Chinese banks on their distressed offshore lending book and enforcement action.
- Advising a number of real estate entities on the restructuring of their debt by way of parallel schemes of arrangement.
- Confidential (ongoing) – advising on a novel structure to maximise returns to creditors of a global group based in the Cayman Islands.
