Bio

Ojeda Smith is a Senior Associate in Appleby’s Corporate department, specializing in corporate and commercial law with a strong emphasis on insurance and reinsurance.

Admitted to the Bermuda Bar in 2021, Ojeda advises clients on a wide range of transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, private placements, catastrophe bonds, special purpose insurers, sidecars, and life insurance securitizations. She also provides regulatory advice specific to the insurance industry.

Prior to joining Appleby in 2022, Ojeda gained experience in the Corporate department of another Bermuda law firm.

Work Highlights
  • MEREO, Appleby Bermuda provided corporate, structuring and licensing advice to Mereo Insurance Limited, a new reinsurance platform focused on transforming the global property, casualty, and specialty markets;
  • ORGANON & CO, Appleby Bermuda advised Organon & Co on the acquisition, by way of merger under Bermuda law, of Dermavant Sciences Ltd.;
  • PRISMIC LIFE REINSURANCE LTD. – Appleby advised Prudential Financial, Inc. and Warburg Pincus LLC, in the launch of Prismic Life Reinsurance, Ltd., a licensed Class E Bermuda-based life and annuity reinsurance company;
  • AEGON – Appleby Bermuda acts as counsel to the Aegon group in connection with the proposed re-domiciliation of Aegon N.V. to Bermuda;
  • KUVARE HOLDINGS – Appleby advised Kuvare Holdings (Kuvare) on its formation of Kindley Re Ltd. (Kindley Re), a newly formed Bermuda-domiciled reinsurer which will co-invest at least USD 400 million with Kuvare in qualifying life insurance and annuity transactions.
Recognition

Ojeda is recognised by the Bermudian Magazine as a Rising Star for 2024, which features Bermuda’s next generation of thinkers, doers and trailblazers under the age of 30.

Ojeda obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology at Nottingham Trent University. She completed her Graduate Diploma in Law, Legal Practice Course and Master of Laws (Commendation) at Nottingham Law School.
