Bio

Simon Felton is a partner in the Corporate team in Jersey. Simon is known for his experience in leading international teams working on complex and ground-breaking structures involving a variety of underlying assets including securities, infrastructure, real estate, investment funds and crypto assets.

His areas of expertise are:

Simon advises leading financial institutions, private debt funds, corporate clients and intermediaries on a wide range of capital markets, structured finance, fund finance and real estate finance work in relation to securities issues, secured lending and asset acquisition.

His practice also extends to restructuring and Insolvency and he has advised arrangers and SPVs in relation to the Jersey aspects of work outs of financial assets – including structured finance portfolios – and secured real estate lending.

Work Highlights

Simon’s recent work has included establishing a platform to facilitate investment in crypto assets by wealth managers on behalf of their HNWI clients, advising the underwriters to the most recent states of Jersey bond issuance, establishing structures to enable early stage investments in start-ups in the technology sector and secured real estate finance work including high value real estate loans to participate in CMBS programmes.

Simon has advised in relation to the Jersey aspects of a number of high profile international restructurings and security enforcement work in relation to real estate financings. Simon has also advised in relation to substantial private M&A activity for institutional, infrastructure and private equity clients.

Recognition

Described as `technically sophisticated’, the [2022] edition of the Legal 500 UK calls him `pragmatic and commercial’.

He is a Market Leader in the IFLR 1000 for capital markets: structured finance and securitisation and a Leading Individual for banking and finance and capital markets in the Legal 500.
