Bio
Stephen’s experience as Legal Counsel at an international bank, coupled with working at an offshore legal firm before joining Appleby, means that he has an excellent breadth of knowledge and a well-rounded perspective for all client corporate and finance matters.
During his time at the bank, his role was to work with different business areas within the organisation to advise on project implementation and assist with a wide range of legal queries. He also assisted with the onboarding process for potential new customers with ‘non-standard’ group structures and reviewed proposed new legislation across multiple jurisdictions to assess its impact on the activities and licensing requirements.
Prior to this Stephen gained significant experience as an Associate in the corporate department of an offshore legal firm where much of his work focused on debt finance and private equity transactions. He advised on loan facility documentation and other transaction documents from a Jersey law perspective and has experience in drafting and negotiating corporate authorisations and security documents on both local and multi-jurisdictional transactions.

Highlights of his career to date include assisting a leading European private equity investor with a variety of transactions, a significant refinancing of a well-known high street retailer’s debt arrangements, a multi-jurisdictional group restructuring of a leading accountancy firm and implementing financing arrangements for the acquisition of various Jersey property holding companies and JPUTs.
