Bio

Steven is a Legal Manager in Appleby’s Hong Kong office and a member of the Dispute Resolution department. He has extensive experience in litigation, financial services disputes, and regulatory compliance.

Steven specialises in acting for financial institutions in complex cross-border debt recovery and security enforcement actions, including winding-up and bankruptcy cases. His expertise extends to advising international and Chinese banks on various banking litigations and coordinating defenses in high-stakes insolvency proceedings.

In addition to his litigation work, Steven has significant experience in regulatory investigations and compliance. He has acted for various clients, including banks and corporate entities, in investigations conducted by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and the Securities and Futures Commission. His advisory role has included compliance matters related to IPO projects and self-reporting obligations under the Securities and Futures Ordinance.

Prior to joining Appleby, Steven trained and worked at a prominent UK law firm, gaining valuable insights into the legal landscape. He is fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.

Work Highlights
  • advised a multinational renewable energy group in defending against winding-up proceedings in Hong Kong related to a guarantee and coordinated the defense in a UK winding-up action concerning a primary debt
  • acted for a syndicate of lenders, comprising 10 leading financial institutions, in the complex restructuring of EcoGreen International Group Limited, a Hong Kong-listed company. This involved navigating complex financial and legal challenges to facilitate the restructuring process.
Qualifications & Education

Steven was admitted as a solicitor of the High Court of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in May 2020.
