Bio

James leads our team in Jersey as the Office Managing Partner and he specialises in all areas of offshore corporate law with a focus on public and private M&A (including regulatory aspects), Fund and Real Estate Finance and Debt and Equity Capital Markets.

As a Partner in the Corporate Team, he is known for his pragmatic and commercial approach that delivers legal excellence. Clients describe James as a “focused, dynamic and solution-driven” partner, who is “easy to deal with and quick at turning things around.”

Before qualifying as a barrister and as a Jersey advocate, James worked at Deutsche Bank, ABN Amro and at Hemmington-Scott in London as a broker and Investment banker and as Head of Treasury and Banking.

He is committed to diversity and inclusion, driving change, and highlighting the importance of addressing biases. He initiated a live stream webinar forum to get people talking about the issues and actively supports events and initiatives that promote mental health and wellbeing.

  • Acting for Deutsche Bank AG London as lead arranger in connection with the BVI, Jersey and Mauritian aspects of the US$600,000,000 bond issue by Severn Energy together with further participations by Vitol SA, Ashmopre Group and a syndicate of African banks headed by FBN Capital.
  • Acting for Goldman Sachs International in relation to its c.€300 million financing of the acquisition of Telecable by Zegona.
  • Acting for HSBC Bank Plc, Project Trafford £1 billion financing of Cinven’s acquisition of CPA Global.
