Bio

Peter Colegate is a partner in the Corporate Group. His practice is focused on privacy, data protection and strategic corporate-commercial and regulatory work in the technology and innovation sectors.

Peter has a keen interest in emerging technologies and has worked on numerous blockchain based offerings and smart contract projects across multiple jurisdictions. A privacy and data protection specialist, Peter is a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals and sits on the Cayman Islands Government’s Working Group on Data Protection.

Prior to joining Appleby in January 2017, Peter was a member of Hogan Lovells’ technology, media and telecommunications group in Hong Kong and helped build the firm’s privacy practice in Asia.

Recognition

Since 2021, Chambers and partners has ranked Peter as a Band 1 lawyer for Offshore Fintech. Legal 500 named Peter as a ‘Next Generation Partner’ in 2023, and has noted him as a “subject matter expert, responsive and detail-oriented” for Regulatory and Compliance. He is also one of the highest-ranked Lawyers in Who’s Who Legal for Fintech & Blockchain 2024.

Peter is admitted as an attorney-at-law in the Cayman Islands, as a solicitor in the British Virgin Islands, as a solicitor in England and Wales (non-practicing) and was a registered foreign lawyer in Hong Kong.
